The Chemical Breed's Established Games

A player-driven persistant-world MMORPG, developed by CCP Games. EVE contains "the world's largest game universe", spanning thousands of solar systems, each with their own planets, stations, asteroid belts and moons.

Players advance through the game based on the learning of skills (which advance in real-time, even when the player is not connected to the game), attributes (which can be increased through the training of learning skills, or the usage of implants) and the acquisition of wealth and items (modules, ships, materials, etc can all be sold andbought for the in-game currency, ISK).

Unlike most MMORPGs (e.g. World of Warcraft,Runescape, etc), the EVE server is not split up into shards - i.e. there is a single server which all players connect to. The EVE universe is persistant, so if a player leaves the game, the universe will continue to exist and be changed by the actions of NPCs and other players. Many of CCP's staff have EVE-related blogs, discussing what they are working on and problems they may have encountered.

Unlike a lot of game developers, CCP are very open withplayers and explain how the game works internally.

For example, CCP have released that the EVE Server program is written in StacklessPython, along with many algorithms and equations for learning time and other in-gamestatistics.

EVE costs $14.95/€14.95 a month (correct at time of writing).

The servers have a dailydowntime period, between 11:00 and 12:00 GMT to allow for a server reboot and minor server-side patches and fixes to be applied.

All hardware regardless of platform must support the following minimum requirements:

  • CPU that supports SSE2

  • GPU

    • with 256 MB VRAM or more

    • that supports Shader Model 3

    • that supports DirectX 9.0c

  • Drivers: DirectX 9.0c (included)

  • Audio

    • that supports SSE

    • that is Direct Sound compatible

  • HD: 20 GB free space (or more)

  • Network: ADSL connection (or faster)

  • DVD-ROM: 2x-speed DVD reader (for boxed editions only)

The minimum screen resolution for the EVE Online Client is 1024x768. For optimum performance always use the latest available drivers for all hardware, including in particular audio and video hardware.

The expectation for the Minimum System Requirements is that all game features can be used on low-end hardware that still meets those requirements. All graphics settings are set to their lowest values. The resolution is set to 1024x768.

The expectation for the Recommended System Requirements is that there is a smooth and visually enjoyable experience across all game features. All graphics settings can be set to their highest values. The resolution should not exceed 1920x1200, though higher resolutions can be used with lower settings.

Please note that when in large-scale situations, such as fleet fights, you are encouraged to drop all graphics settings to their lowest value.

DUST 514 is a First Person Shooter (FPS) and strategy experience set within the EVE universe. The primary gameplay features brutal ground combat that takes place on the surface of planets, delivering the visceral, adrenaline-fueled experience of futuristic firefights. Developed for the current generation of consoles, DUST 514 will be equal parts battlefield reflexes and strategic planning, allowing commanders and ground infantry to work together, utilizing the real time configurable modular weapons and vehicles at their disposal to adapt to and control dynamic battlefield conditions.More than a mere persistent world, DUST 514's connection with EVE Online makes New Eden a true virtual reality. The planets that DUST 514 players fight on will be the same planets that EVE pilots see and interact with in space. Both worlds will be linked in such a way that cooperation between players is optional, but beneficial to both if accepted.Long term, we aim to become the premier service provider of the complete science fiction experience, one in which the experience itself extends from the ground all the way up into space, and on every vehicle in between.
